Breakfast, Beach and Back to the Social.

The plan for today was sunset, not sunrise...so my feet hit the floor at about 9:15 a.m. We cooked breakfast (Scott did most of it)...Omelets, maple sausage and bacon. We relaxed, walked the dogs, hopped in the car and headed...well, wherever really. We ended up on a dirt road back in the marsh at a camp like crab house. We took took it all in and just had a drink at the bar. We had light conversation with a woman who was sitting across the bar from us who asked where we were from, as well as our seasoned bartender, Boo. The woman across from us was from West Palm but has lived in Saint Augustine for 19 years. Having gone to college there myself made for fun conversation. She was headed back home tomorrow as well. I'm pretty sad to leave already but am soaking it all in. We left there and checked out another place down the road that was a sunset grill but didn't stay. We went back to the cottage and back to the beach again. We went to place on the Marsh called AJ's for sunset and then headed back to our favorite, Social, again. There was live music on the strung lightt patio.

We had apps inside and then we switched to the patio and Scott went to get the dogs. Our night was filled with tacos, sangria and music we loved. The dogs were fed treats and thoroughly enjoyed getting to come to dinner. We headed back, did some laundry and headed home in the morning.
We were sad to leave that lovely little cottage. It was the relaxing vacation I was looking for. So glad we went and it won't be our last visit to Tybee, that's for sure.

Move like a jellyfish, Rhythm is nothin, You go with the flow, You don't stop

Day 2 cont...

I thought these were pretty cool.
We had a wonderful morning. The pups are relaxing too.

I was told Tybee was like Dawson's Creek. Boy O Boy is it ever. After we left the beach this morning, we toured ourselves around the island, checking out the scenes and all of the cool houses.

Dawson's Creek much?!?
After we toured, we came back to the cottage and made cinnamon rolls. We were going to rent bikes but Scott found a tandem bike in our shed with the tires pumped and ready to go, it was pink. Man, what a site we were. We hopped on and rode a few miles to the shops & galleries. It was fun. We were going to get a drink and app at a waterside venue but headed home, packed the cooler, made a sandwich and headed for the beach. We read, listened to music and laid in the sun. We headed back to the cottage and walked the dogs, then napped, then walked the dogs again. Scott showered and ran to the store for dinner stuff while I showered. We listened to Norah Jones and Otis Redding radio while we cooked and drank red wine. We made wedge salads, baked spaghetti, and bread. We watched food network and hung out. We cleaned up the kitchen and Scott is now napping on the couch as I type this waiting for the brownie concoction I made and am waiting to cool. This is owed to my newest obsession, Pinterest:

The cottage is full of darkness dimly lit with the glow of candles everywhere. Mmmm, can't wait to crawl in bed and read my book until my eyes fall. It was a LONG but WONDERFUL day. Nighty night.

Slow down everyone you're moving too fast, frames can't get you when you're moving like that.

Day 2 in Tybee

As stated in the previous post, I have been really busy lately. Mostly with things that I'm passionate about but some other things that caused me stress. I really needed this getaway, I rarely say that I NEED something. The previous post was titled what the cottage we are staying in has been named. Today's post is a line from Jack Johnson that I'm oh so familiar with. We really do need to slow down and this small little vaca is exactly what I wanted it to be.
We set the alarm and coffee for 6 a.m. anticipating a 7:16 a.m. sunrise time. Scott of course was right up, my feet hit the ground about 6:20. I stumbled to throw clothes on and brush my teeth to get to the kitchen for the coffee that had been brewed for me. I absolutely adore the timed coffee pots :)
I made a cup of coffee and we set out by foot in the dark on this chilly morning on the quick walk from our cottage to the beach to witness one of God's daily miracles; his sunrise.

It was absolutely fantastic. Tybee beach has wooden swings by each public entrance to the beach right after the dunes. This was a perfect setting to watch the magical sunrise with blanket, coffee, camera and each other. We were the only people on the beach except for another couple way down to the left and another woman on her morning walk.

This was the swing during different times of the sunset. Here are few more unedited shots of the progression.

And our footprints in the sand. All of the photos are unedited but for some reason, this is one of my favorites:

Basking Under The Tybee Sun

Scott, the pups and myself arrived in Tybee Island yesterday. I've wanted to come here for a few years, ever since I came across these little cottages online. I have been crazy busy lately and Spring Break was upon us. I finally talked Scott into coming to do nothing but relax.
When we took the I-16 exit for Savannah towards Tybee, we were an hour and a half early for check in so we made a pit stop in Savannah for a stroll down the riverfront cobblestone roads and a margarita. Delish.
It's also Mako's 3rd Birthday. These are the only half way decent photos I took while in Savannah.

This is our cottage. We originally booked a smaller 3/1 for ourselves and the pups but during the golf tournament I received a phone call that they had accidentally double booked our cottage. They gave us a choice of any pet-friendly cottage on the island. So we ended up with this one; a 4/3 with a small pool and fenced yard for the dogs. We are so happy with it. It couldn't be more cozy, beachy and artsy.

Once settled in, we cozied on the couch with the dogs and took them for a walk. We relaxed some more and Scott made a fruity beverage for himself and a big plastic wine glass of Sav Blanc for me to go for a stroll on the beach. Yes, drinks from home on the beach. That's one of the laid back perks of the island, you can take drinks ANYWHERE. The beach cruiser bike rentals even have a basket and a drink holder.
Our "stroll" ended up being a VERY long walk but we were completely happy with that. It's been exactly what I intended; no plans whatsoever. The beach here is beautiful with looooong sandy beach before the waves crash and beautiful dunes. We saw the pier in the distance and decided to walk to it, that's what made our walk so long. Once we were there, we walked the main roads back to the cottage, checking out all of the houses, rentals and places of business.
We came across a little restaurant called Social and the sign out front said "Wednesday Winesday". Right up my alley. So I asked Scott if we could just go there and he worried that him in khaki cargos/tee and me in my cotton skirt/V-tee, made us not dressed appropriately enough as it looked a bit beachy fancy from the front in all white and a porch strung with lights. I knew that probably wasn't the case as Tybee Island's theme is always "Plan B", but I humored him and walked home first to get the car. We took the dogs for another walk and headed back to Social. It was the best decision we could have made.
As cheesy as it sounds, when I say it couldn't have been more than perfect, I mean it. We decided to sit inside as it was all whites and wood and perfectly lit. Adele was playing as we took our seats at a high top in the small little wooden bar. The music continued to be songs that we know & love. There were pieces of drift wood strategically placed at the base of some of the stools and there was an old school table top PAC-man in the corner.
I was pleased to find that the menu was mostly Mexican themed with very decent prices. We started with homemade chips, queso blanco, guacamole, and two salsas; fire-roasted & tomatillo. A fresh squeezed margarita for me, a PBR for the hubs.
We knew we wouldn't eat much so we decided on splitting the chorizo burger and shoe string sweet potato fries (at $1 more, why not!), and it was delish! Handmade red wine sangria for me, another Pabst for the hubs. I definitely want to try an "upscale" fish taco: A crispy strip of bacon. Pear Puree with chorizo and fresh cilantro. Ride’n a corn tortilla wave. $5.5
Here is what is said about the Tybee Island Social Club:
"...a charming white-washed sun-bleached outpost. Walk past the large, shady patio inside, where ceiling fans lazily revolve amid chandeliers made with recycled, colored glass insulators. Hung on the painted white beadboard, you'll find almost as much ephermera as on a long walk on the shore-old surfboards, island art and photos..."-Georgia Trend Magazine March 2011

That it was.
We played PAC-man before we left. :)

We came home from dinner quite full bearing leftovers. We set the coffee maker & alarm for sunrise and snuggled into bed with the pups in the downstairs calming coral bedroom.

Goodnight Tybee.
